KB4C and Ro-Sham Wrap Up

It's finally starting to calm down here in Hood River after two weeks of back to back events.  The first event was Kiteboarding for Cancer put on by Tonia Farman at Athletes for Cancer.  We had a huge success with the event raising over $60,000 for the survivorship camps that get put on to help cancer survivors.  The first day was the endurance race which involves riding for 6 hours around a race course.   I participated on team Liquid Force along with Colleen Carroll, Craig Cunningham, and Dave Grove.  We pushed it hard during the day and ended with 35 total laps, not bad considering a lap was about 2 miles.  We ended up taking home 2nd place for the team relay and walked away with some amazing stories.  On Sunday we also participated in the team relay challenges which involved a lot of swimming, running, and team cooperation.  We ended up taking 1st in the team self rescue, 2nd in the dreaded walk of shame, and 3rd in the relay race, wahooo!

Team LF high fiving the win!

Immediately following the KB4C weekend was the Annual Ro-Sham Throwdown, a slider contest held right here in Hood River.  The event was setup as the first official slope-style contest kiteboarding has ever seen.  The whole Hood River slider park was setup in one big run, and riders took their turns making two passes through the park for their score.  The format was amazing, allowing great spectating, progression, and great vibes from all the riders.  We had varied conditions throughout the week, the first day saw a solid 25-40 mph with some heavy gusts pushing through.  The final day saw solid wind, warm temps, and blue bird skies.  What more could you ask for?

In the end Liquid Force Team Riders Craig Cunningham, Sensi Graves, Colleen Carroll, and myself all made it into the finals.  Colleen walked away with a 1st in the women's division with Sensi taking home 3rd.  In the mens Craig pulled out a 4th place and I took home 2nd to Sam Light.  Not to bad for team LF.  In the end it was an amazing two weeks showcasing all that kiteboarding has to offer!

KB4C and Athletes for Cancer

So this year I will be participating in the Athletes for Cancers event the KB4C.  So many people around the world are affected by this disease every year. This is a great cause to help those going through or dealing with cancer.  I have been personally touched by this, as most have, I lost both my grandparents to cancer.  My grandmother to breast cancer, and my grandfather to pancreatic cancer.  I was rather young and didn't quite understand what was going on, but it effected my family greatly.  If you have some time please take a look at this organization and help give something to this wonderful cause.

Fresh Videos

Tappin' n Rollin' from James Boulding - Steez Prod'ns on Vimeo.

So this month has been super busy, besides the move across country I was busy shooting with James B. from Steez Productions.  Here is the fruit fo our labor, a wonderfully shot and edited video showcasing what Hatteras has to offer.  We spent the better part of the month of June riding and shooting together.  I couldn't be happier with the result of all that hard work, it was fun getting out and riding the new Liquid Force "hotdog" rail.  Enjoy!

Slider Party 2012 // Official video from Kitaddict on Vimeo.

The next edit is from Ben at Kite Addict, it was shot during the 2012 Slider Party in Barcares, France.  We had an amazing time riding and hanging out during the event, and although we didn't score the best conditions, we still had a blast.  We were able to kite a handfull of times and spent the rest of the time shredding the cable to bits.  At the end of the day it was just fun to get out and ride with all my good friends from around the world.

Change of Pace.

After a great spring spent at REAL in Cape Hatteras, it was time for a change of pace.  So Sensi and I packed up our bags and made the move to the West Coast.  We picked the small active town of Hood River for our home base.  We have been here for four days and just can't get enough.  From kiting and mountain biking, to fresh produce and beautiful scenery Hood River offers it all!  We have already kited everyday since we've been here.  We couldn't be happier!

Kitaddict Slider Party 2012 - A short movie from Kitaddict on Vimeo.

Also here is a short movie from the Kite Addict Slider Party held this year in France.  We did not have the most amazing conditions, but we still got to ride a bunch of cable and even scored a handfull of good kite sessions.  At the end of the day I walked away with 3rd place, not to shabby.

Thats it for now, stay tuned for more to come from the West coast and the Ro-Sham Throwdown.
